5 injured in cross-LoC shelling in Karnah

Srinagar, Nov 14 (SBNews): At least five civilians were injured along the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district when armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy firing on Thursday.


According to SBN the shelling from across LoC started at 6 am in Dhani, Sodpura, Tad and Trada areas along the LoC which continued for several hours. Five civilians which included a woman, were injured in the shelling.


The injured were identified as Mohammad Amjad son of Abdul Rehman resident of Sadpora, his mother Gulista Begum wife of Abdul Rehman, Abdul Majeed son of Abdul Jabbar Bhat resident of Trada, Mohammad Aslam son of Noor Hussain resident of Sadpora and Ghulam Rasool Bhat son of Sikander Bhat resident of Sadpora.


Mohammad Aslam was referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment, reports said and added two houses suffered full damage while over 10 houses were partially damaged in the shelling.


Sub-Divisional-Magistrate (SDM) Karnah Dr Bilal Mohiudin Bhat has announced a compensation of Rs five thousand in favour of the injured persons.


The border residents complained that the authorities have failed provide safe bunkers to them which could have saved their lives during the shelling. They said that despite making promises of providing community bunkers to border residents several times, the government has not fulfilled those. (SB NEWS)
